What It’s Like to Work with a Health Coach: A Compassionate Approach to Change
If you’ve ever felt stuck in a cycle of stress, overwhelm, or self-doubt, a health coach can help you shift from burnout to balance. As a mindful wellness coach, I take a strengths-based approach: helping you quiet the inner critic, reconnect with your values, and create sustainable habits that support your well-being.
You don’t have to figure it all out alone. With compassionate guidance and practical strategies, we’ll work together to help you move forward with clarity, confidence, and ease.

Where Health Coaching Can Help
Have you ever tried to make a meaningful change in your life, only to feel stuck, discouraged, or unsure of where to start? You might have a vision for how you want to feel—more energized, less overwhelmed, more connected to yourself—but the steps to get there feel unclear or unsustainable.
When we try to navigate change on our own, the inner critic (aka. gremlin, monster, etc) can get uncomfortably loud. It tells us we’re not disciplined enough, that we’ll never follow through, or that if we haven’t figured it out by now, we never will. But real, lasting change doesn’t happen through self-criticism: it happens when we feel supported, seen, and encouraged.
This is where health coaching comes in.
What Does a Health Coach Do?
A health coach is a guide and partner in your well-being, helping you make meaningful changes that align with your values and lifestyle. Think of us like a copilot on a road trip where you get to drive and choose the destination (and all the stops along the way!). Unlike traditional wellness programs that focus on rigid rules or quick fixes, coaching is about sustainable transformation: the kind that lasts because it’s rooted in your unique strengths and motivations.
As a mindful wellness coach, I take a strength-based approach to help you reconnect with what’s already working in your life, rather than fixating on what’s not. As a copilot in your wellness journey, you can expect me to ask questions like “Which routes have helped you get to where you wanted to go in the past?” and “What snacks do you need to pack for the roadtrip” and "What is your confidence level in getting to where you want to go on time?” Ultimately, we develop, test, and tweak an action plan that you are excited about.
Along the way, we explore your values, strengths, and motivations, allowing you to move forward with clarity and confidence. Expect to put in some work and learn new skills!
The Benefits of Working with a Health Coach
Health coaching is a collaborative and personalized process. Here’s how it can help you:
Gain Clarity on Your Goals – What do you truly want, and why does it matter to you? Together, we explore your deeper motivations so that your goals feel meaningful and aligned.
Silence the Inner Critic – A coach helps you recognize and shift negative self-talk, replacing it with self-compassion and confidence in your ability to change.
Explore Obstacles with Curiosity – Instead of seeing challenges as failures, we look at them as learning opportunities, helping you build resilience.
Create a Sustainable Action Plan – Change happens in small, consistent steps. We co-create a plan that feels realistic and supportive, not overwhelming.
Receive Encouragement and Accountability – Having a compassionate guide to reflect back your progress helps you stay motivated and connected to your journey.
What Health Coaching is Not
It’s important to understand that health coaching is not therapy. While a psychotherapist helps you process past trauma and mental health challenges, a health coach focuses on the present and future, supporting you in making tangible lifestyle changes. Coaching can be a great complement to therapy, helping you implement insights and develop habits that align with your well-being.
You won’t be getting any authoritative adivce, prescriptions, treatment, or diagnoses: please rely on your medical team to fill these needs. However, if you do receive guidance from a medical professional, health coaching can help you take guidance and integrate this into your everyday life. As an example, you may have worked with a psychotherapist and recently discovered you are autistic, and would like to make some changes in your life to better care for your nervous system which tends towards dysregulation: a health coach can support you in this behavior change with a strength-based approach (especially if they are neuroaffirming!).
Health coaching is also not a one-size-fits-all approach to wellness. It is a highly customized partnership approach. You will need to put in work to discover where you’d like to go, what your strenghts and values are, which adjustments you’ll make in your life, and when and how you’ll get there.
